NOTR - JEPHTHAH & THE BIBLICAL VIEW OF SELF DEFENSE - 8.4.23
Today's Show: JEPHTHAH & THE BIBLICAL VIEW OF SELF DEFENSE - 8.4.2023
Chris discusses what the Bible teaches about the right of a people to defend themselves against an aggressive enemy who threatens them, by analyzing the story of Jephthah in the book of Judges. After Jephthah won a great victory against the Ammonites, the men of Ephraim threatened to burn his house down, because he did not rely upon them for help. Jephthah replied that he called upon them, but they would not deliver, so he fought without them. As a result, they said he and his men were "fugitives." What does this conflict reveal about the Biblical view of self defense? Do the people then have a right to protect themselves, or do they need permission?
